We are especially looking forward to releasing details for our Autumn camp schedule! It should be noted, we have forty-nine camps scheduled across the holiday period so we look forward to again bringing high level coaching to you! Who will be coaching you this Easter?

Former ASC guests Stuart Law and Joel Garner appointed Head Coach and Team Manager of the West Indies respectively. The quality of the Australian Sports Camps coaching program continues to be shown at the highest levels of international cricket with the appointment of Stuart Law as Head Coach and Joel Garner as Team Manager of the West Indies. Many participants enjoyed working with Joel Garner in the early 1990’s as he spent some time with Australian Sports Camps. In this video from 1992/1993, found deep in the ASC vault, he can be seen here with ASC at Bendigo.

Joel Garner & ASC 1992/1993

You could arguably count on one hand the amount of fast bowlers of his calibre. Only strike partner Malcolm Marshall has a better bowling average (20.94) than his own (20.97) for those who have taken 200 wickets or more in Test Cricket. His average of 18.84 in One Day Internationals remains the best of all time! for those who have bowled 1000 balls or more. His prowess in the short form of the game was most notably demonstrated in his 5/38 demolition of England. Notably, in the 1979 World Cup Final, which remains the best figures achieved in the showpiece of cricket. Stuart Law’s appointment to guide the West Indies continues his long-term successful career as player and coach. In addition a test and 54 ODI’s for Australia to his name, he was a magnificent player at domestic level with 40,089 runs including 100 tons. He was also a handy option with the ball as well, capturing 175 wickets including a couple of five-wicket hauls. After years of captaincy (including overseeing Queensland’s maiden Sheffield Shield triumph after a long drought), Law turned to coaching gaining high-profile roles for Sri Lanka (interim), Bangladesh, Australia (Batting, Under 19’s), CA Centre of Excellence and the Queensland Bulls/Brisbane Heat. Law is a past guest of ASC where he coached on a daily basis alongside Australian players! including; Andy Bichel and Michael Kasprowicz at the Carl Rackemann Cricket Camp in Queensland. We wish both well in their new roles in the West Indies as they look to gain success for the Caribbean nations.

The Justin Langer Cricket Camp was a marquee occasion each year. Hundreds of eager participants converge on Hale School, Wembley Downs to learn from and work with the great Justin Langer. The resume of ‘JL’ needs little introduction. Without a doubt, he is revered as one of the finest opening batsmen to have ever graced the game, let alone these shores.

Justin Langer Cricket Camp 2016/2017 Action

Justin’s dedication to his camp program delivered a magnificent camp program every year. In particular, a number of talented players treated our 225 participants to daily coaching in 2017! And worked with a panel of magnificent past and present star players. Alongside Justin that year our participants enjoyed meeting and learning from a number of players! Such as;

  • Terry Alderman,
  • Tom Hogan,
  • Kim Hughes,
  • Adam Voges,
  • Geoff Marsh,
  • Mitchell Marsh,
  • Sam Whiteman,
  • Andrew Tye,
  • Joel Paris,
  • Simon Mackin,
  • Ken Lilly and
  • Josh Nicholas.

These players draw from extensive elite-level experience. Their records include: 312 Tests, 384 ODI’s, 12 T20 Internationals, 26189 runs for the Green and Gold including 52 tons, 379 wickets and 18 five wicket bags. At State/County level our group has under their belts: 2912 matches, 110979 runs including 221 hundreds, 2084 wickets with 74 hauls of five or more. Our participants took advantage of this wealth of knowledge and worked hard on their skills whilst having lots of fun. Although over the years we have seen much talent take part in our camps on their way to the top of their respective sports, Australian Sports Camps has always enjoyed providing opportunities for all players to have fun and create life-long habits of participation in sport! Here are a couple of short clips of our participants at work! Some excellent shots and great line-and-length bowling was on display! Keep an eye on Australian Sports Camps on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and our website! www.australiansportscamps.com.au

Congratulations to past Australian Sports Camps guests Chris Heighington (Cronulla-Sutherland), Fletcher Roberts and Josh Dunkley (Western Bulldogs)! Who over the weekend achieved the pinnacle of their sports, collecting NRL and AFL Grand Final winners medals respectively. Chris was part of Cronulla-Sutherland’s first Premiership in their 53 year history with the 14-12 victory over the Melbourne Storm. Conversely, Fletcher and Josh were part of the Western Bulldogs second premiership in their history back to 1925! Ending a premiership drought since 1954 with their gutsy triumph over the Sydney Swans 13.11.89 to 10.7.67. The Bulldogs created history as they became the first club to win the flag from 7th position, eclipsing the previous mark set by the Adelaide Crows who came from 5th to win in 1998. Congratulations to all of the winners. fletcher-roberts chris-heighington-giving-a-talk
